Munni Begum is no longer a stranger to the Triangle area. This year her concert, sponsored by The Triangle South Asia Consortium and Urdu Majlis, was held on May 5 in the Caldwell Hall auditorium of NC State University. Approximately 200 people were present to take pleasure in ghazals by Munni Begum. Munni Begum commenced the program with "Tumharay Sheher Ka Mausam" singing a total of 18 ghazals which included "Lazzate-e-Gham Barha Di Jiyay", "Eik Baar Muskura Do", "Saqia", "Awaargi Mein" plus a Bengali geet per request from the audience. Among the songs, "Jhoom" which was presented before the interval and "Mast Qalandar" which she ended the program with were thoroughly enjoyed by the audience. It was certainly an evening to be remembered. |
